Hotel Tales Saves, Slots & Voice Language

Keep endings honest after 1.0.3, and hear the hotel the way you want after 1.0.2.

Saves & Voice Options

Hotel Tales is a choice-heavy probation sim: evenings, Key Phrases, and night forks write flags that later become endings. Launch week proved those flags can lie if the client is stale. Changelog v1.0.3 (August 4) fixed choices that did not save, producing wrong endings or blocked plot events. Changelog v1.0.7 (August 8) then stopped coins resetting when you switched files, made relationship values reset correctly on load, and hid the Main Menu Continue button when no save exists. Changelog v1.0.2 (August 3) is the audio pass: separate voice language, mute toggles for the main character and Narrator, and smoother pause fades. This guide is the practical map for those three patches so you stop blaming the hotel for a dirty slot.

Install the full chain through v1.0.7 before a finale week. Steam app 3413800 is the only safe source.

Why saves matter more here than in a linear VN

Retail ships four staff romance routes and four guest arcs. Relationships & Choices is explicit: supporting one character lowers another’s trust. You cannot romance everyone in one file. Night prompts on Night Events and dinner investigation on Mysteries & Paulo add more forks. A single Continue slot is not a plan.

Recommended slot hygiene:

  1. Day-start slot — overwrite this each morning after you finish yesterday’s fallout.
  2. Pre-evening slot — before you pick a coworker or guest.
  3. Pre-night slot — before intervene-versus-watch.
  4. Pre-finale slot — before any day the calendar labels as last-chance or departure.
  5. Experiment slot — for Key Phrase spends you might regret.

Name slots by day + focus (for example D5-Pasithea or D5-Paulo-dinner) instead of save3. v1.0.2 adjusted the save screen layout; v1.0.7 fixed relationship bleed when you load a different file. If a character still loves you after you loaded a cold run, update the build before assuming canon.

The 1.0.3 choice-save bug (still the reason to update)

Players reported story actions that felt selected in dialogue but did not persist. Endings then resolved as if you had picked the other line — or a later event never spawned. That is not a hidden “hotel remembers” twist. It was a critical bug. After 1.0.3:

  • Replay the contested conversation from a pre-scene slot, not from Continue mid-scene.
  • Watch for a successful write (slot timestamp / slot preview) before quitting to desktop.
  • If Paulo’s bad ending still will not trigger or will not stay gone, install 1.0.7 as well — that changelog names Paulo specifically. See Endings.

Coins, Continue, and ghost affinity (1.0.7)

v1.0.7’s save notes are easy to skip because they sound like UI nits. They are not:

  • Coins no longer reset when you switch files. Route jugglers were losing currency just by comparing slots.
  • Continue no longer appears when the profile has zero saves — useful after you delete a spoiled first run.
  • Relationship values reset when you load another file or start new. Cross-slot romance bleed was making Romance Routes planning meaningless.

After updating, open two slots you know are different and confirm coins and hearts do not copy. Then start a fresh file and confirm Continue is absent until you actually write a slot.

Voice language, mutes, and pause (1.0.2)

Steam lists 14 interface languages. English and Russian include full audio; French, German, Spanish (Latin America), and the other store languages are text/subtitles unless TopHouse expands VO later. v1.0.2 lets you set voice language separately from UI text — the setting players asked for when they wanted English VO with, for example, French menus.

Also added:

  • Mute protagonist voice only.
  • Mute Narrator voice only.
  • Fade and stop VO and other sounds when you pause (less mid-sentence hard cuts).
  • Fixes so language switching actually sticks after you toggle it.

Hotel Stories received voice-over later in 1.0.7. If a Gallery card is silent, update, then reopen the card — see Gallery & Hotel Stories.

Practical settings pass (ten minutes)

  1. Let Steam finish v1.0.7 (or newer).
  2. Launch online once so achievements and language options register.
  3. Pause → language: set text and voice independently.
  4. Decide mute preferences before a long spa or bar scene (Mini-Games).
  5. Create the five slot types above before Day 2 evenings.
  6. If you play on a Steam Deck, re-test pause and font scale after 1.0.7’s monitor-responsiveness pass — Steam Deck & Handheld.

Demo saves do not become retail saves

The free demo remains a practice slice. TopHouse did not advertise demo-to-retail import. Treat demo files as disposable. Demo Walkthrough and Demo Checklist are for learning the loop, not for carrying Paulo or Solomon flags into the full calendar.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Which Hotel Tales patch should I install before endings?

Install through Changelog v1.0.7. Patch 1.0.3 specifically fixed choices not saving; 1.0.7 fixed coins, relationship bleed, and Paulo's bad ending.

Can I set English voices with another UI language?

Yes. Patch 1.0.2 added a separate voice-language control plus mute toggles for the protagonist and Narrator.

Do demo saves carry into the full game?

No. Treat the Steam demo as practice. Start a new retail file after purchase.

Why does Continue appear with no saves?

That was a launch-week menu bug. v1.0.7 hides Continue when the profile has no save files.

How many save slots should I keep?

At least day-start, pre-evening, pre-night, and pre-finale. Conflicting romances and mystery dinners need extra experiment slots.
