Best Hotel Tales Settings

A practical preset for dates, voice acting, and Patch 1.1.4 map talks.

Last updated:

Best Settings

Hotel Tales is a Unity visual novel, not a shooter. “Best settings” means you can read the timer, hear the guest, and not fight the UI during a date. This page is the preset we recommend after Patch 1.0.2 (split voice) and Patch 1.1.4 (map talks + dinner animation). Pair it with Saves & Voice and Controller Support.

You do not need DLSS, frame generation, or a 240 Hz overlay. You need the bar to stay visible.

SettingRecommendationWhy
DisplayBorderless window, native resAlt-tab without minimizing a date
VSyncOnVisual novels do not need unlocked frames
Text speedMedium-fast if you read EN; slower if you learn a VO languageFinish the line before the timer
Auto-advanceOff on datesAuto-advance plus a timer is how people default a confession
Master volume80%Headroom for dinner scenes after 1.1.4
VoiceOn, independent of SFXPatch 1.0.2 split the sliders — use that
Music60–70%Dialogue sits on top during evenings
ControllerOn if you own a padFace buttons beat mouse hunting
Steam OverlayOff during dates, on when hunting achievementsOverlay click can eat a timer

Language packs stay in Languages & Voice. Changing UI language does not change which finale you can reach.

Display notes

  • Fullscreen exclusive can black-screen on some laptops when a second monitor sleeps. Borderless is the stable choice.
  • Ultrawide letterboxes. Do not chase a community hex for 21:9 — unsupported.
  • HDR is not a first-class path. Leave Windows HDR off unless your desktop already requires it.

If the picture looks washed after a GPU driver update, verify Steam files before touching JSON.

Audio notes

Patch 1.0.2 is the important one: voice is no longer glued to SFX. Mute footsteps without muting Paulo. If VO and text disagree after a language switch, restart the client once — Saves & Voice.

Headphones help on dinner scenes. The 1.1.4 animation pass added movement noise that can mask a quiet reply on laptop speakers.

Performance

Minimum / recommended specs live on System Requirements. On a Steam Deck or low laptop:

  • Drop to 1080p or the Deck default.
  • Keep VSync on.
  • Close Chrome during New Game evenings if the map stutters after extra talks.

Stutters during 1.1.4 dinners are usually shader compile, not a dying GPU. Let the first dinner finish.

What not to “optimize”

  • Do not install “Hotel Tales FPS packs.”
  • Do not edit save JSON to skip seen lines — Mods & Cheats.
  • Do not run the game as admin “for performance.” That only breaks Steam Cloud paths.

Set the hotel once. Then stop opening the menu mid-date.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What are the best Hotel Tales settings?

Borderless native, VSync on, auto-advance off on dates, voice split from SFX (Patch 1.0.2), overlay off during timers.

Should I use fullscreen or borderless?

Borderless. Exclusive fullscreen can black-screen on multi-monitor laptops and makes alt-tab riskier during timed choices.

Does higher FPS change Hotel Tales gameplay?

No. Timers and choices are not frame-linked in a competitive way. VSync on is the sane default.

Why is voice stuck to sound effects?

You are probably on a pre-1.0.2 build. Update, then use the separate voice slider.
