Hotel Tales Patch 1.2.1
August 26, 2026 — difficulty slider, boss-fight combat, romance hints, results screen, and basement search.
On August 26, 2026, TopHouse published Changelog 26.08.26 v1.2.1 for Hotel Tales (Steam app 3413800). This is the first numbered build after Patch 1.1.4 and the first one that adds a real difficulty menu. If this wiki still told you there was no Easy / Normal / Hard slider, that sentence is obsolete — install v1.2.1 from Steam before you blame a mini-game. The live announcement is on Steam News.
Steam’s All pile sat at Very Positive, 80% of 460 reviews (370 / 90) when this page was written. Steam purchasers stayed Mostly Positive at 79% of 407. The US store listed the base game at $14.99 with no active discount. Those numbers move; the patch notes below do not.
What v1.2.1 actually shipped
TopHouse’s list is short and specific:
- Difficulty system: Easy, Normal, and Hard. The level affects almost all mini-games, not the romance calendar and not Key Phrase inventory. Full player-facing advice lives on Difficulty.
- Both boss fights improved. Combat is described as more responsive and engaging. Map those fights to the known pressure boards in Boss Fights and Mini-Games — Laveau’s infernal defense is the named combat puzzle; the notes do not print a second proper name.
- Results screen at the end of the game. After a finale you now get a recap pane instead of dropping straight to credits. Pair it with Endings and the dedicated Results Screen guide.
- Unlock Entire Gallery screen at the end of the game. Patch 1.1.4 already added a Gallery unlock window; v1.2.1 lists it again, which usually means the prompt was rebuilt or made easier to notice. Use Gallery & Hotel Stories and Unlock Gallery.
- Romance hint window for Pino, Pasithea, Laveau, and Nikki. The game now tells you how to start those four bonds instead of leaving the first evenings as folklore. How to Romance is the wiki checklist; the in-game hint is the new on-ramp.
- Many small script improvements and tutorial fixes. Expect fewer dead clicks in the opening hours, not a rewritten story.
- Basement item search mini-game updated. Hidden-object layout and feedback changed. If a pre-1.2.1 video looks “wrong,” you are watching the old board.
- Game screens adapted for different monitor resolutions. This continues the 1.0.7 / 1.1.4 display work. Re-test Ultrawide and Steam Deck 16:10 after updating.
Difficulty is a mini-game setting
Easy / Normal / Hard is not a story slider. Timed dialogue, Key Phrase gates, evening jealousy, and Paulo flags still behave like they did on 1.1.4. What changes is how punishing the boards are: rhythm windows, search clutter, cocktail timing, and boss-fight reaction. If you came from the demo and felt Pasithea’s disco or Laveau’s defense were the whole game’s “difficulty,” this patch finally names that feeling.
Pick Easy while you learn a new board, then raise the level on a save taken before the activity. Do not start a New Game just to toggle Hard. Best Settings still handles voice, text speed, and mute — those are accessibility, not Easy mode.
Romance hints vs route planning
The new hint names four people: spa/disco Pasithea, bar Laveau, luggage Nikki, and doll guest Pino. That is not the full 4+4 roster. Griselda, Paulo, and other guest arcs still need the wiki and your evening calendar. The hint will not let you romance everyone in one save — Relationships still applies.
Results screen and Gallery
Use the results pane to screenshot flags before you overwrite a slot. The Gallery unlock remains a completionist shortcut after a route, not a substitute for evenings. If the window never appears, you are probably on a pre-1.1.4 client or you quit before the end card.
Install checklist
- Update Steam until Changelog 26.08.26 v1.2.1 is in your news / build history.
- Set Easy / Normal / Hard before a mini-game you intend to retry.
- Open the romance hint if Pasithea, Laveau, Nikki, or Pino still feel opaque.
- Finish a route once to see the results pane and Unlock Entire Gallery prompt.
- Re-run basement item search from a save taken before the board.
- Steam Deck / odd aspect ratios: re-check UI clipping after the resolution pass.
- Keep Patch 1.0.3 in the chain — choice-save integrity is still mandatory before finales.

Patch 1.2.1 is the “stop guessing the boards” update. Set a difficulty, read the romance hint, and finish one route so the results screen can show you what the hotel actually tracked.
Preguntas frecuentes
Respuestas rápidas a las dudas más comunes.
When did Hotel Tales patch 1.2.1 ship?
TopHouse posted Changelog 26.08.26 v1.2.1 on August 26, 2026, after Patch 1.1.4 (August 18) and the August 25 Steam Cards drop.
Does Hotel Tales have Easy mode now?
Yes. v1.2.1 adds Easy, Normal, and Hard. The setting affects almost all mini-games. It does not flatten romance flags or Key Phrase gates.
What are the romance hints in 1.2.1?
An in-game window explains how to start romances with Pino, Pasithea, Laveau, and Nikki. Other staff and guest arcs are not covered by that hint.
Did Gallery unlock already exist?
Patch 1.1.4 added an end-of-game Gallery unlock window. v1.2.1 lists the screen again alongside a new results pane — update if you never saw either.
Should I reinstall before endings?
Install through v1.2.1. Keep Patch 1.0.3 in the history so choices still save. Then use the results screen before you overwrite a finale slot.
